OFLP Conducts Stakeholders’ Consultation in West Guji Zone

The World Bank Financed Oromia Forested Landscape Program (OFLP) has been implementing Landscape-level Emission Reduction Activities in Oromia since 2017. Given that it has achieved significant results on the ground, the program is currently proceeding with implementation of Emission Reduction Purchase Agreement and Result-based Benefit Sharing plan. 

Meantime, OFLP is conducting successive consultation in Oromia with a view to address key implementing actors across the region. The principal objective of the event is hence to impart contemporary status of the Program to zonal and wereda level stakeholder, create awareness on the ongoing Emission Reduction Purchase Agreement (ERPA) activities and discuss effective implementation of Benefit Sharing plan.    

The occasion has been so far held in eight zones of Oromia. Same event has been held in Bule Hora town of West Guji Zone. Accordingly, representatives of key implementing sectors drawn from nine weredas of the zone have taken part.

 Coordinator of OFLP Ob. Taye Dugasa, speaking on the event disclosed that the program has done significant emission reduction activities on the ground. He also stressed the need to further coordinated effort toward insuring sustainability the achievement and effective implementation of ERPA and Benefit Sharing Plan.  Relevant materials were presented by ob. Getu Shiferaw, ORCU forest specialist and the program coordinator. Due discussion has also been made on ways of tightening coordination and effective implementation of ERPA and Benefit Sharing Plan. Key messages were also conveyed urging stakeholders to sustain emission reduction efforts.     

It is estimated that effective and harmonized Emission Reduction activities in Oromia have the potential to reduce more than 45 million tons of Carbon dioxide.
